Desert planet - Mario Built My Hot Rod (9pm records / Stupido)

Almost orchestral arrangements, which lead crosswise through the fields of VIC, SID and Game Boy, without wearing puristic chiptune eyeglasses. As it is with Scandinavian songs, everything in here is aligned to melodies and that's fine. Moreover Desert Planet are providing with "Breakout Button" a hit, which bleeps and blurbs dirty over its hookline in a pleasant way. In doing so one can easily recognize apart from the melodic nature their descent from a more rockish corner, without ever drifting off - due to the lack of vocaltracks - into electroclash style. With their sound somewhere between NES Punk and joyous "Ufftata" Desert Planet are a "must" for every video-game drinking-party, numerous soundeffects and sometimes even a hymnic undertone are the perfect invitation for alcoholic interaction. Of course no milestone of innovation, but that's anyway not what chiptunes want to be. And if the music has been listened to we can still gaze at the two merry Finns on three trashy odd videos thanks to the data-part of the cd.
